I Thought This Day Would Never Come

With the advent of Jenny Wellbaum's move to Facebook, I no longer have any friends that are ONLY on MySpace!

I have deleted my MySpace account (hoorah!) which means I remain free from that site until I need to build up a MySpace page for my tee company.

In celebration, enjoy this 2x2 image of me using a jetpack:

.
^Yes, I'm really using that jetpack! It was awesome!

I thought the world deserved to see my new Rock Band steampunk self.

Or maybe he deserves to see the world?

Largely Overdue

So besides the fact that Ash wrote the last 3 entries, our blog hasn't been touched in something like 20 days. I guess there's been lots going on since then, and we just haven't made the time to write.

So here's my post to get us back on track! We're re-railing, here and now.

UPPER/lower - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever

We didn't post about this one when it went up, but I've completed and submitted 4 designs to threadless in the past 2 or 3 weeks. Essentials of Punctuation was my highest score ever and then UPPER/lower scored even higher 2 weeks later. It's still pretty low as far as getting printed goes, but I'm looking forward to making designs that'll score even higher. I'm planning on staying away from the type designs for a little while as well.

Since we last wrote, both Ashley and I finished our training at Convergys. Both of us were hired on the DirecTV project where we take all kinds of calls (we're sort of the all-purpose customer service department, it's called ACE, specifically advancing the customer experience). Ashley has actually quit and found a job that she likes more, where she's been working almost a week already. She's waitressing for a Mexican restaurant again and it's going much better for her than taking phone calls for DTV. I'm still working at Convergys, but it's wearing me thin. I'm going to talk to my team leader about trying 30 hours a week instead of 40. If I can be productive with my extra time, I intend to cut my hours further to 20 or 25. We'll see. The calls aren't SO bad, I'm just not built for 40-hour workweeks.

I'm doing well at the job too. Last I checked (before I sluffed a day and a quarter), I was ranked 7th out of the 180 on the call floor. We are ranked based on quality, accuracy, call length, percentage of worktime spent on the phone, et cetera.

My laptop died. It was a bad hard drive. Right now we're trying to decide if getting a good desktop for both of us would be a better option than repairing the laptop. Either way, I'm hoping GeekSquad will be able to get my files off my hard drive.

I recently went off my meds (Cymbalta) due initially to having misplaced them. Things weren't going well so momma had to call me today. I'll get back on them. My mind welcomes the robotic landscape. Time to shut up those feelings again, they were getting noisy.

Boy, that sounded bitter. :)

We've also got a car that is fully ours. I've been intending to get a picture up here for a while now for a naming contest of sorts. I guess I'll do that later because now it's way too late and way too dark to get a picture.

We're going to go to General Conference live for the Saturday morning session, so that's sort of exciting.

My Marine.

So today I found out my cousin, Kelin, is being deployed in three months to Afghanistan. Back in January, I was told by him he was no longer, now he is going again. I got my hopes up that he was going to be around for a little bit longer, like a year. But now I'm losing him in three months for an undetermined amount of time. I didn't have a wonderful day. I wish he was staying here and not going into danger. I miss him.

One Month plus a few days....

Okay, so Landon said that I had to post a blog by today at the latest. So here it is...

Work has pretty much taken over our weekdays, which is good because we needed something to do. I finished the classroom training last week (Landon is done after this week) and was on the call-floor today taking calls. I was so nervous to take a phone call, I was scared I had no idea what I was doing, but it went better than I had expected. I only had like three tough calls that I really had no idea how to handle. Other than that it was alright. The day tends to go by faster in the phone calls I think. Before I realized it, the day was over and I felt like it was just time for lunch or something. I think I can learn to enjoy this job, the people seem really nice and are very helpful.

This past weekend we went down to Fairview to help Landon's Uncle Joe with building the house they have down there. It was a pretty small town but the area was so nice and the house was really, really cute. At first we were helping with the wood floor trying to get that laid and that was really funny. My job was just picking the next piece of wood or putting glue down. Landon got the hard work of banging and nailing all the wood in place. But he did a really good job. Then I got called out to help out his Uncle Joe with the railing for the decks. That was interesting because I tried to reach what I needed to but I ended up having to basically crawl under the deck in the dirt to help out with that. I didn't mind that, it was fun. The only not-so-fun part was trying to get all the sawdust that embedded itself into the braids I had that day out. There was sawdust everywhere.

Anyways, on the way out there and while we were there, Landon's Cousins Hannah and Ethan thought it would be fun to play the question game, which consists of me sitting there answering questions that they ask. It was funny! They asked questions like "what pizza do you like", and "what's your favorite things about Landon", and "where do you wanna go on vacation". They were really cute though. On the way back, we just asked them school-related or random fact trivia. I think they enjoyed that a lot.

Sunday was really nice. At church we met someone who just got back from his mission in the Detroit area and we were talking to him. He was really excited to meet us and I was excited because he ended up knowing all three of the missionaries that I was taught by. It was really fun to talk to him. Unfortunately, we didn't get to talk long, but hopefully we can talk to him again. After church we were locked out of the house so we had to go run around looking for Charlotte back at her church because I had the Ward Missionaries coming over for the new member discussions a little bit after church. They were super friendly and seemed like really nice people, I think Lacey and Aubrey were their names. I feel bad about not remembering, but I'm on overload with names right now. They just came by to get to know me a little, so hopefully I will start meeting some more people. It's been kinda hard because there are a lot of people and its hard to tell if someone else is new or not, but hopefully I will start meeting more people in the weeks to come.

I think this Thursday Landon and I are going to go to the stake Institute class to see if we want to go to that class. We also can go on Wednesday so we have two classes to choose from. I really enjoyed the little bit of the institute class I attended out at Eastern so hopefully we can get into a class out here.

Right now we have been here just over a month, and hopefully in this next week we will be driving our own car. I feel bad that we keep borrowing cars from Debbie and Rand and Charlotte. I will feel a lot better when we have our own car. We're going to go look at one later on tonight when Landon gets off work. Hopefully that car will be a good deal for us and we will be on the road in the next few days.

Well I'm gonna end this one here, I have to finish writing my missionaries letters about this past week!!

A Grey and Tired Wintry Eve

Save for six other souls that each spent three seconds' precious communion with mine, I spent forty-five minutes alone and out-of-doors tonight.

My mind wandered and thought of such things as echoes, the sounds of airports, and the bipedal nature of humans.

After these contemplations, I reflected upon my day.

I departed my bed's warm embrace at nine in the morning. I spent an eight-and-a-half hour day at Convergys. I walked to Rand and Debbie's. I spent half of an hour entertaining cousins followed by two-and-a-half hours sitting with my bedridden and darling inamorata. I came home to Charlotte's, and began shoveling the driveway, walks, and street. A few minutes into the task, I saw her returning from a walk with the chihuahuas. She thanked me and I said, "Oh, it's no problem."

Upon finishing the internal recapitulation of my day, I thought to myself, "I wouldn't have done anything differently."

Valentine's Babysittin'

Ashley and I went to Harmon's to visit America First Credit Union and set up accounts there. We've got a savings and a checking account set up and put the last of our Blockbuster money inside. We then went shopping for some fruit. We got kiwi and three fruits we'd never had before: a blood orange, seven kumquats, and a quince.

The blood orange was delicious! It's got a gorgeous color (the color of blood) and it is less acidic than normal oranges. It's got a hint of raspberry to it as well.

The kumquats were strange. They look like itty-bitty oranges, and you eat the whole thing. The inside is extremely sour and the rind is sweet. I didn't like my first one, it was neither very sour nor very sweet. Also, orange rind texture doesn't very much appeal to me. My second had much stronger sour and the rind was much sweeter. This one was good!

The quince was interesting. Apparently, they are far too tart to have raw, so you cook them. They're supposed to turn pink when you do this (they start yellowish) but ours didn't even after forty-five minutes! We Googled it to see how the heck you were supposed to cook these things and picked a simple simmering method. Sidenote: quinces are supposed to make very good jelly. We simmered it in sugar-cinnamon water for three-quarters of an hour. It ended up tasting like cinnamon-covered apples. Rebekah said it tasted like honey. I agreed with my next bite.

After having a kumquat each, Rand and Debbie were off! Ashley and I had the wonderful opportunity to babysit so that Rand and Debbie could go out together. We had such a blast!

We served the kids a wonderful dinner consisting of ramen, mac & cheese, peaches, quince, and veggies. Adam ate a few forkfuls of ramen and then downed 4 or 5 peach halves. He'd finish his load of peaches and then just point and ask for more! He tried a bite of quince but promptly spit it out.

After dinner, the kids went on the porch to blow bubbles. Ashley cleaned up the kitchen while I cleaned up Adam. He needed a new onesie, new pants, and a new diaper. I picked pants that were too big, so he took them off and they stayed that way for the rest of the evening.

We watched Igor, which was really cute.

The kids then introduced us to the hat game. It involves putting them in jail while they try to save each other and steal our hats. It's exhausting. The rules also very much favor the kids to the babysitters.

The kids were crazy after the movie! It was a lot of fun though. Note: We did clean up afterward!

The night ended with an animal-sound card game. Once Rand and Debbie returned, the kids all crashed.

Ashley and I read six chapters of Ether (Book of Mormon) before I drove home to Charlotte's.

Bonus: Adam loved the elephant.

Bloggen Sie Zahl Drei?

Work started this week!
Woo-Hoo!!
Ok, not really.
It's pretty boring so far.
Learning all the rules and stuff.
We watch PowerPoint's for probably half the day.
We did get to build pretty sweet paper houses today though.
It was pretty much a party...
^That sentence is for Elder Ringle when he gets back from his mission and I tell him the link of my blog for him to go back and read.

So work is starting out pretty much as any other job. Except were supposed to be in training for like 5 weeks. I really can't imagine they have 5 weeks of PowerPoints for us... That would be really, really, really boring. But I get paid for it so can't complain to much. Also, its a job. And I do like working.

I'm still sick. It's starting to annoy me. The first few days I was just like, "ok I'm sick." Now I'm like, "really? still!?" But I haven't been this sick since like August so I guess it was time for a really good cold to hit.

I think Landon needed to put us the picture of us at the Draper Temple. I liked them. He on the other hand didn't because his shadow was on my face or something. But at least one of the two turned out good. Oh well. I'm sure we will have more chances for pictures there.

I talked to my parents today. Both of them. They sounded really happy about my job opportunities. My Dad was happy to hear me still motivated about my future and my Mom was too, although she laughed when I told her that my only form of entertainment all day is spinning in my chair. Sorry, I'm just not used to sitting in the same place ALL day. But I will just have to get used to it.

My Promised Blog

Maybe a few days later than promised, it arrives nonetheless!

I'll start with the Draper Temple picture Ashley promised.

We're not in it because the ones with us in it are stupid.

I'd love to take her here next January.

We drove up to Salt Lake City today to hear cousin Robert's farewell talk before he leaves on his mission. His brother and father spoke as well. All three talks were really good. It was good to see all the family again. We went to Kirk's and Colette's after for 3:00 dinner. Dinner was, of course, delicious. On the way up and on the way back, Ashley made sure to point out the Draper Temple.

I'm thrilled one of us finally got a job! I just need to find something productive(ish) to do until I get one too. Of course there are things like reading, doing art, and helping around the house but... um... I don't really have a good excuse not to be doing those things. If Ashley didn't mention it, I've got an interview at the same place this Thursday.

Ashley, unfortunately, has been sick for the past too-many days. It's evolving too! It started out as bad stomachaches and it has become more cold-like with headaches and coughs. It's really no fun.

She wore this for like four days straight. I know, it's sort of mean. I'm making a point though. She doesn't feel good.

The Best Friday Ever!

S0 today was a great day.
I am sick.
I feel yucky.
My tummy feels better but my head is all stuffed now.
But...
I have a job.

I went in for an interview this morning at a place across the street from my house and it took forever! I had to do some testing which took like 45 mins. But then I sat there for 30-40 minutes waiting for the man to come talk to me. I was so nervous. I just really wanted a job. Finally he came out to talk to me and he was scaring me like I was wayyy under-qualified for the job. But then out of no where he asked me to start on Monday.

So it's a full-time job and I start working Monday for 5 weeks Mon.-Fri. 8-5. After that my hours may change but I like that schedule so hopefully they don't change to much. The job is at a call center. So not the most luxurious job but its an answer to prayers. The best part is that after 60 days or so I can try and get health insurance through them which may turn out to be a good thing for the future.

Landon also goes in for an interview on the 12th at the same place except I am more of a Customer Service Rep and he is going in for Technical Support. Hopefully he has the same luck as I have though.

So far Utah has been wonderful.
Except for my dumb body that keeps getting sick.
I keep hearing it must be the change in the air and altitude.
Hopefully though it gets better.

On Monday we had the opportunity to go the Draper Temple open house. It was sooo nice. I loved it. Landon will hopefully post some picture tomorrow. It was really my first time even seeing a Temple in real-life. The location is just so amazing its like its on top of the world. The mountains in the background are just great for pictures. I really just love its location and everything. So far its my favorite Temple.

Anywho, Its getting late and I need to sleep! So that's all for now. We're going to try and update this more often, promise!

Landon's First Post!

Utah, Utah, Utah!

Ashley pretty much covered the trip out here perfectly.

My backpack was just too heavy.

Anyway, it's been fantastic so far! Ashley's handled meeting family wonderfully so far and they are all treating her so well, which I am so thankful for.

We both have fantastic places to stay and everything just feels right.

Imagine how much right-er things will feel with jobs and our own car!

I'm going to cut the text short for images (something about being worth a thousand words).

Yesterday we went to the grocery store and then made up our own dinner. It was delicious! I cooked the noodles (impressive, I know).

It's peppers, onions, beef, and udon noodles!

Yes, they're "cheater" chopsticks. They're the only ones I own.
Note: We can both use real chopsticks!

Then today, we headed over to Macey's where they had hot dogs for 10 cents! Turns out we were in the wrong line, but we ended up getting these great steak meals for $3 each!

It came with a roll too, but I ate that before we sat down :)

We went with Rand and Debbie and their kids (Rebekah pictured behind Ashley).

I made JD and Nikki come with us too. Nikki had a brat. Mmm.

First Day in Utah.

Ok... So, I don't really blog. So this is kinda gonna be more like this is what I did today. Landon's may be a bit more interesting. Sorry.
Anyways...

So we got to Utah last night about 11 or so. It was a long day for the both of us. We got up relatively early for us on Tuesday to finish up the packing and to just get together all the last minute things that we lying around the house. Then we had to say Good-bye to Landon's family. That was sad. Poor little Tanner, I felt so bad for him. I felt like I was stealing his brother away. But I think in a few months when he comes out here he will see how great Landon is doing and really just think our move was for the best.

Anywho. We got to the airport, unfortunately we didn't weigh our carry-on bags. See that was not a problem for the plane but it happened to be a problem for Landon's back. Sorry Hunny. Next time we will have to remind ourselves to only pack one computer in each bag. So his back was pretty much tired after like 10 minutes... not good for trying to catch a connecting flight. So we got on the first plane to Phoenix, AZ which was good. We had mild turbulence pretty much the whole way out but we still managed to get some sleep each. And I successfully finished like 6 of the large word searches on the DS.
But we finally landed in Phoenix and we got off to walk to our next flight which was leaving in about 45 minutes. We had our itinerary for the next flight which was supposed to be like just down the hall. But for some reason I wanted to check the flight status on the departure TV things. And our flight had actually been switched from A2 to B6... quite a walk. Poor Landon had a heavy bag and then had to walk forever. Plus the floor moving things were broken for most of the walk which made it even worse cause he never got to rest a little. It probably didn't help that I have been on the phone with my cousin at the time but it was the first time we had talked in about 2 months. I was happy he called. It was really nice to talk to him and hear he was not to upset by my decisions anymore.
So finally we got to our gate. We had about 20 minutes to spare so we grabbed something to eat across the hall and had time to eat about half of it before we boarded. The flight from Phoenix to Salt Lake was soooo short compared to the previous flight. It was a lot smoother too.

Finally we were in Utah!!

We met up with Landon's Aunt Charlotte and JD. I was really nervous to meet them but I immediately felt very comfortable with them. It was very comforting to not feel awkward and out to place right off the bat. But since then things have only got better. Charlotte is very nice and just so cute. JD introduced me to Nikki and us four have been hanging out most of the day. We also came by Landon's Aunt Debbie and Uncle Rand's house since that's where I will be staying and we said Hi and got me situated a little.
Followed by shopping at Target for some random things we needed right off the bat. Then we went back to Charlotte's and played some Rock Band and after a little while it was time to celebrate birthdays! Landon's birthday is tomorrow and his cousin Kaleb's(?) was yesterday. So we did a combined birthday party with his family. So have have met half of his family now, but really I have probably twice as many if not more to still meet. There are alot alot alot (ed: Ashley insists on making sure the a's don't get lonely) of people out here to meet.
My nerves about meeting them have settled down a little. After about 24 hours and I just feeling very strongly like this is where I am supposed to be right now. Yes things are still working themselves out and we still need to get jobs and a car figured out but the home-like feeling I am getting is just making me feel even better about all of my decisions in the past few months.

I am where I am supposed to be right now.
And it feels great.
